Exploring Sensory Play Community of Practice


Description
This CoP explores the importance and benefits of providing rich sensory experiences for children in early childhood. We will discuss the various approaches children have to sensory experiences and how to make adaptations to encourage all children to engage in sensory play. We will also take an in-depth look at the interoceptive, vestibular and proprioception senses and how they impact children’s development.

This is a hybrid course that include self-paced modules and three virtual meetings on:

Course Objectives
Participants will:
•Understand the benefits of sensory play for young children.
•Identify various activities that incorporate sensory experiences for young children.
•Understand the different approaches children may have to sensory experiences and how to make adaptations to encourage all children to engage in sensory play.
•Understand the interoceptive, vestibular and proprioception senses and how they can impact children's behaviors.
•Identify strategies for helping children develop and regulate their interoceptive, vestibular and proprioception senses.


Participants earn 6 in-service hours for completing all components.
