Exploring Sensory Play


Description
This course explores the importance and benefits of providing rich sensory experiences for children in early childhood. We will investigate the various approaches children have to sensory experiences and how to make adaptations to encourage all children to engage in sensory play. We will also take an in-depth look at the interoceptive, vestibular and proprioception senses and how they impact children’s development.

Course Objectives
Participants will:
•Understand the benefits of sensory play for young children.
•Identify various activities that incorporate sensory experiences for young children.
•Understand the different approaches children may have to sensory experiences and how to make adaptations to encourage all children to engage in sensory play.
•Understand the interoceptive, vestibular and proprioception senses and how they can impact children's behaviors.

This is an online, self-paced course. Participants earn 5 in-service hours upon completion.
